How we match your Long Beach medical malpractice case

When you submit a Long Beach medical malpractice matter, we route it through a national network of independent partner firms and put it in front of the one that fits best — based on the kind of case it is, what it is likely to involve, where it has to be handled, and who has capacity to take it on now.

  1. Case type

A medical malpractice matter needs someone who handles medical malpractice work day to day, not a generalist. Practice area is the first filter.

  2. Size and complexity

Some firms are built for catastrophic injury and multi-party litigation; others resolve straightforward claims quickly. We weigh what your matter is likely to involve against how each firm actually works.

  3. Jurisdiction and licensing

Your matter is decided under California law, so it goes to an attorney licensed in California who regularly appears where your case would be heard.

  4. Capacity and fit

Availability, conflicts of interest and language all matter. If the best-fit firm cannot take your case, we route it to the next one that can — or tell you plainly when no one in the network is the right answer.

Every partner reviews your case for free. Injury and workers’ compensation matters are handled on contingency — no fee unless you win. Other matters are quoted upfront, before you commit to anything.

DearLegal provides marketing and matching services and is not a law firm, and is not a State Bar-certified lawyer referral service. Submitting a case does not create an attorney-client relationship. Matches depend on case type, jurisdiction and firm availability.

California caps non-economic damages such as pain and suffering in malpractice cases, and that cap has been increasing under recent reforms. Economic losses like medical bills and lost income are not capped. An attorney explains how the current cap applies to your situation.
California’s malpractice deadline is short and runs from when you discovered or should have discovered the injury, with an outer limit. Notice to the provider is also required before suing. Speak with an attorney as soon as you suspect negligence to protect the deadline.
In Los Angeles County court either way, since both Long Beach and Los Angeles are in the same county. Which courthouse handles it depends on assignment rules. An attorney manages filing and gathers records from every provider involved in your care.
Under CCP § 340.5, the SOL is the earlier of: (1) 3 years from the date of injury, or (2) 1 year from the date the injury was or should have been discovered. There are limited exceptions for foreign objects, fraudulent concealment, and minors. Claims against public providers require a 6-month government claim under Gov. Code § 911.2. The CCP § 364 Notice of Intent tolls the SOL by up to 90 days in some circumstances.
MICRA (Civ. Code § 3333.2) historically capped non-economic damages at $250,000 in California med-mal cases. AB 35 replaced the flat cap with a phased increase starting January 1, 2023. As of January 2026, the cap is roughly $430,000 for personal-injury cases and $600,000 for wrongful death, with annual increases through 2033 to $750,000 / $1,000,000, followed by 2% annual inflation adjustments. Up to three separate caps can apply in multi-defendant or multi-category cases. Economic damages remain uncapped.
