Louisiana's lemon law is aimed at new vehicles, so used purchases often fall outside it. That does not leave you without options, since remaining factory warranty coverage, dealer misrepresentation, or general warranty claims may apply. An attorney can identify which theory fits your purchase.

A buyer can rescind the sale or obtain price reduction when the thing sold has a defect that makes it useless or so inconvenient that the buyer would not have bought it. Redhibition applies to new and used cars, has a 4-year prescriptive period (1 year from discovery), and is one of the strongest used-car remedies in the country.
